Mother and Grandmother came to visit! They arrived the afternoon before Easter Sunday.
We first went to the Royal Ettrick Hotel… about three blocks away from my flat. The room was very tall with three beds even though there were only two of ‘em. The advertised price of the room in the lobby was 150 pounds but they booked the room online for only 50 pounds a night!
The next day was Easter (obviously). I had made reservations at the “Tower” Restaurant inside the Museum of Scotland. At first we were the only party dining but later on a few people came along. By far this was my most expensive meal in Scotland but it was also the best steak I think I have ever had in my life! The restaurant overlooks the Edinburgh Castle and much of the city. Sean Connory and Catherine Zeda Jones held the premiere dinner for “Entrapment” at this restaurant so you know it has to be good.
After brunch we explored the museum. I really liked the architecture… very modernish and fun to look around and explore (more interested in the walls than the contents of the museum). I ended up buying a book describing how it was designed and built. Figured it might help me with my archive design project for class. That is until I discovered a large area of mold near the ceiling in one area of the “new” museum. Sick Building Syndrome? Tisk Tisk…
After the museum, we headed back to the Royal Mile and up to Edinburgh Castle to take a tour. It was my first time inside the castle and it was pretty cool.
