WORK: Schematic Design through Construction Administration
A strong dedicated attitude has guided me through my professional architectural experience, including work on a 550,000 square foot retail development, numerous ecclesiastical institution improvements, and historical office renovations. In addition, I have been involved in the LEED certification process for both new construction and renovation of existing buildings.

A city once known for its ship building industry is now the world leader in biomedical research and digital entertainment. Dundee has a remarkable history of evolving and modernizing its economy to thrive in an ever changing world. This is a design to celebrate Dundee’s rich history, providing visitors a chance to explore a vast collection of written, photographic, and videographic content. A graphical screen summarizes the content and mediates the experience, interpreting between physical presence and abstract data.

WORK: Master Planning
Working in an interdisciplinary team, my group explored methods of creating a community that extends beyond smart growth. Through conversations with city residents, city health departments, researching alternative energy and lifestyle methods, we proposed a master plan which addresses the needs of education for residents of all ages in a mixed-use community adjacent to the university campus.

WORK: Communications Lead
The 2005 Solar Decathlon, a project of the United States Department of Energy, was an international design-build competition which tasked teams to design and construct a self-sufficient solar powered home. The houses were showcased on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Our team’s entry focused on sustainable northwest technologies, featuring the latest products designed to work in the sun-deprived Pacific Northwest region. Liptus wood flooring, plastic wood composite decking (developed at WSU), evacuated tube heat exchangers, and inverted SIP panels were a few of the products utilized in our design.

CLIENT: WSU Wood Materials Laboratory (Hypothetical)

Research and educational facilities serve similar purposes but their methods are near opposite. This educational institution needed to accommodate rigid instructional environments with continually adaptable research facilities. This scheme embraces both requirements and creates a prominent new home for the Materials Lab as well as a welcoming environment for the students.

CLIENT: City of Boston (Hypothetical)

WORK: Schematic Design
Thinking of this site in Boston, Massachusetts as a manipulatable membrane instead of a solid mass, this civic center embraces the artificial nature of the site due to marsh conversions during the eighteenth century. Creating an experience where the site manipulates itself into volumetric spaces, the Storrow Center interacts with the patron, generating a unique experience on the bank of the Charles River.

CLIENT: Edinburgh Festival Committee
COMPANY: Napier University
WORK: Schematic Design
An exploration of artificial light, these projects manipulate objects and light to create a spatial experience. The culmination was a proposed exhibit for the 2007 Edinburgh International Festival, creating a meaningful dialog between the staged photography and the spontaneous photographs for the Richard Demarko Archive, celebrating 60 years of festival traditions.
